The Manager, Global Talent & Culture will be responsible for supporting human resource aspects across IISD, with a particular focus on engaging with IISD’s global workforce. They will have strong knowledge in managing a compensation and payroll program across jurisdictions and working with Employer of Record (EoR) companies. They will promote an open, respectful working environment that is responsive to staff’s needs and challenges.


Reporting to the Director, Talent & Culture in Canada, the Manager will work closely with the HR team to successfully manage IISD’s growing global workforce.


Responsibilities:

Human Resources Policies and Systems

  • Contribute to the development and oversee the implementation of IISD’s international HR strategies.
  • Manage the global compensation program, including reviewing and recommending changes to salary structures and market adjustments and placement of existing and new positions to stay current with the global employment market.
  • Based on different jurisdictions, research, organize and coordinate payroll requirements, including developing new compensation scales when necessary.
  • Review and provide recommendations on HR policies and practices seeking, where possible, to harmonize policies across countries. Ensure policies and procedures are effective, efficient, fair, transparent, promote equal opportunities, and reflect IISD’s commitment to its staff members.

Recruitment and Staffing

  • Support management in the recruitment life cycle.
  • Work closely with the HR team to establish a process to manage employee contracts/updates, paid leaves, new hires, terminations, and other employment needs across jurisdictions.
  • Liaise with payroll, the EoR service provider, and other outside payroll administrators supporting IISD’s international staff.
  • Create onboarding/offboarding processes for different jurisdictions in cooperation with the relevant external service provider.

Staff Development and Well-Being, ED&I

  • Counsel senior team members about HR-related matters, including performance management, objective setting, and compensation changes.
  • Work with management and employees to solve conflicts and help facilitate positive employee relations to maintain a good working environment.
  • Assist in training and development, coordinating or providing training as needed using in-person, remote, and computer-based training.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a global human resources function.
  • University or college education in human resources or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in international employment law, payroll, and practices.
  • Experience managing a global compensation and benefits program.
  • Proficiency in diversity and inclusion, recruitment, job design, performance management, and professional development.
  • Experience in the delivery and development of training in a variety of formats, including in person and remote.
  • Advanced language skills in English and French with great communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to develop good working relationships in a global environment.
  • Proficiency with human resource information systems and performance/evaluation management systems; experience using BambooHR, Spark Hire, or Small Improvements is considered an asset.
  • Experience working independently.
  • The position may require occasional travel nationally and internationally.

Location: There is a preference for candidates based in Geneva, IISD’s European office. Other European locations are also being considered for remote work. The candidate must have a valid work-permit in the location where they are based.
