Full-Stack Software Engineer - Up to £70k
Location: Bristol - 2-3 Days in Office per week
Term: Permanent - Full-Time

Our company is the leading reinsurer globally for cyber risk, driven by it's superior modelling, pricing, and underwriting capability. We have built the only proprietary, stochastic model for cyber insurance in the market; the capability combines over 90% of market data with live data feeds on cyber risk to generate industry-leading loss predictions. The system assesses over 1 million policies, pulling together human expertise and data from dozens of sources to model risk with machine learning algorithms and a massive Monte Carlo simulation that generates over 10 trillion calculations and 100 terabytes of data. The outputs enable industry-leading insights for portfolio construction, aggregation management, and loss prediction.

About the Role

We are seeking technical staff for our global technology hub in central Bristol. At Our Company, the core technology and platform team are responsible for delivering and operating the foundational platform and cloud environment that power Our Company's advanced machine learning based cyber risk modelling and underwriting products. As a senior software engineer on this team, you'll work on the on the fundamental infrastructure components and services that all other teams build on.

Responsibilities

  • Build cutting edge native infrastructure and services on top of GCP
  • Deliver frameworks and services that are secure, efficient, mature and highly available that abstract away infrastructure complexity
  • Optimise existing systems/services to improve performance and efficiency
  • Systematically improve availability by applying industry and distributed systems best practices
  • Work with other talented members of Our Company's team including data scientists, data engineers and insurance professionals to build the foundations of Our Company's growth over the coming years

Key skills

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast paced, high growth tech environment
  • Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure as a service offerings
  • Familiarity with container and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • You are a full-cycle developer: strong ownership and experience building and operating high-scale, distributed systems across the full software life cycle
  • Strong Python skills
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across multi-discipline product teams
  • You are a strong problem solver and have solid production debugging skills
  • You are passionate about efficiency, availability, security and quality

Desirable experience

  • Experience with infrastructure as code software tools (e.g. Terraform)
  • Experience of ML Ops and the full lifecyle of production machine learning models and pipelines
  • Familiarity with machine learning and related technologies
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Domain experience in insurance or cyber security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in a technical degree, with specialisations related to computer science preferred
