The Day Procedure Unit team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is one of the major elective surgical Unit’s in East Anglia treating an approximate 14,000 patients in 2019 . Following the Nationally recognised British Association of Day Surgery Directory the Unit is continually reviewing and expanding its services to more patients with greater complexity of procedures. We are currently recruiting for a band 6 nurse to join this busy Surgical Unit.

Working hours: Shift work Mon – Friday 7am – 10pm, Sat 7am – 8pm

You will gain knowledge and experience in the management of perioperative care for adult patients from admission to discharge. Supporting the team to ensure they adhere to the agreed admission discharge and transfer protocols according to staff training and competence and supporting the team with any troubleshooting needs. This variety and flexibility ensures maintenance of professional and leadership approaches through the challenges faced in each specialist area and patient group. In addition the opportunity is available for operational problem solving skills to be enhanced to embrace the ability to deal positively with difficult matters and difficult situations that can arise.
The Day Procedure Unit plays a vital role in education and training of nurses, ODPs and trainee clinicians in the speciality of elective day surgery. The Unit is credited as one of the first student clinical areas to embrace the placement of CLIP students, following the pilot area. The ethos of new learning and development is keenly supported and as such the Unit has its own training and development lead.
Distinctly for the Trust, a nurse led discharge is followed by the day surgery nurses who make the decision on patient suitability for discharge without further medical input. The clinical specialists advise and guide the ward in the care giving processes ensuring the set protocols and standard operating procedures are adhered to.
